| At Perks, we strive to bring you the finest, premium tea available. Although all tea comes from the same basic plant, the camellia sinensis, there are over 3,000 varieties. We divide our teas into five basic categories: Black, Green, Oolong, White, and Puerh.
TASTE THE DIFFERENCE IN OUR PREMIUM LOOSE LEAF TEAS
BLACK – Black teas undergo complete oxidation and the results are a characteristic dark brown and black leaf. These are typically more robust with pronounced flavors. Black tea has a higher caffeine content compared to other teas.
GREEN – The oxidation of the green tea leaves is stopped quickly and therefore tend to have less caffeine, approximately only 10%-30%. Green teas tend to produce more subtle flavors with the undertones and accents that connoisseurs treasure.
OOLONG – Oolong undergoes partial oxidation. Because of this, their caffeine content is somewhere between that of green and black teas. Oolong is extremely fragrant with beautiful, intriguing tones and is why the taste and aroma is often compared to that of fresh flowers or fruit.
WHITE – These are the most delicate of all teas with rich subtlety, complexity, and natural sweetness. These teas are hand processed using the youngest shoots of the tea plant, with no oxidation. White teas, when brewed correctly have significantly less caffeine.
PUERH – Puerh is an aged black tea from China prized for its medicinal properties and earthy flavor.
Tea is one of the most affordable luxuries in the world. A pound will yield about 200 cups and even if the cost of the tea is $100. per pound, it still only costs about 50 cents per brewed cup! |
